Kirkland & Ellis has turned to Clifford Chance for its second partner hire in a week from the U.K. elite firms, following its hire of Allen & Overy’s global infrastructure co-head on Wednesday.
Clifford Chance finance partner James Boswell is joining the U.S. firm, according to a person with knowledge of the move. Boswell was promoted to partner in 2012.
The hire follows that of A&O’s Sara Pickersgill on Wednesday, which Kirkland said was “the first of several hires in the sector in Europe”.
Boswell’s experience includes infrastructure financing, leveraged financing and restructuring, according to his website profile. Experience includes advising Budapest airport and CMEX on their respective refinancings.
It is also the latest London hire secured by Kirkland in recent months. In August, the U.S. firm made two partner hires in London in one week, including Louisa Cobbe from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, as well as the Ashurst partner Catherine Gokah.
Kirkland has been picking off talent from the U.K. elite, in particular across Europe in recent months. It added London A&O antitrust partner Alasdair Balfour in April, and Munich A&O tax partner Michael Ehret in March. The firm also picked up a Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer private equity partner duo in 2021.
