Allen & Overy has promoted 39 lawyers to partner in its latest round, one of the largest sets in the firm’s history.
This year’s cohort is a significant increase on the 30 partners that the firm promoted globally last year.
This year’s round includes 13 newly elevated lawyers in the firm’s London office, and 16 across continental Europe.
There were three partners promoted in the U.S., where the firm has rapidly grown in recent years, including new bases in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Boston. Two of these promotions were in Washington D.C., and a single promotion was made in New York.
A&O’s Asia Pacific bench has added five partners, including two in Hong Kong, and one apiece in Sydney, Tokyo, and Shanghai.
A&O managing partner Gareth Price said in a statement on Tuesday: “The talent represented by this group of new partners is exceptional and I’d like to offer my congratulations to each of them. That this is one of the largest groups we have ever promoted demonstrates our continuing growth ambitions across multiple geographies and practice areas.”
The firm is the latest of several outfits to announce large promotion rounds in recent weeks, including fellow Magic Circle outfits Linklaters, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Slaughter and May.
Several law firms, including CMS and Addleshaw Goddard, promoted their biggest rounds ever earlier in April.
