A long-standing Brussels Allen & Overy partner has left for Crowell & Moring, in the latest run of established U.K. firm partners quitting for U.S. outfits in the country.
Crowell & Moring has added litigation partner Werner Eyskens from A&O in its latest boost for the office.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Eyskens spent most of his career at A&O. He joined from Benelux firm Loeff Claeys Verbeke in 2001, at which he had spent six years as an associate.
This is the second major lateral hire for Crowell & Moring’s Brussels base in the last 12 months. In September 2021, the U.S. firm hired intellectual property partner Sari Depreeuw from the Belgian boutique firm Daldewolf.
Crowell is the latest to expand its presence in Belgium in recent years, with an uptick in trade and competition work expected following the U.K.’s departure from the European Union. Its office is well-established, having launched in Brussels in 1999.
U.S. firms have continued to pluck talent from U.K.-led firms for their offerings in the country.
Elite U.K. firm Linklaters has also had two partner departures from its Brussels base recently, to Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Covington & Burling respectively.
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett opened an office in Brussels in 2021 with the hire of A&O global antitrust co-head Antonio Bavasso.
A spokesperson for Allen & Overy declined to comment.
