Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has appointed London corporate partner Lorenzo Corte as its co-head of global transactions to replace Scott Simpson, who died in May.

Corte, who is also co-head of London M&A, had worked closely with Simpson for several years and has advised on big-ticket M&A for the likes of Silver Lake Partners, Blackstone and InvestIndustrial.

He has been a partner at Skadden since 2009.

The firm’s other co-head of global transactions are New York partners Stephen Arcano and Audrey Sokoloff.

Simpson died suddenly, aged 65, leaving the firm without one of its most well-known figures in the U.K.

At the time of Simpson’s death, Corte said: “Scott was an extraordinary mentor and friend for my entire career. I feel fortunate to have had the privilege of working and spending countless hours with him.

“His deal instincts were unique and his approach to counterparties, clients and colleagues, disarming, full of energy and positivity. He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, clients and counterparties alike.”
