Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed its next office managing partner for Italy.
Effective February 21, Milan-based partner Francesco Lombardo succeeds Nicola Asti, who has been at the helm since September 2015. His term runs for three years, according to the firm’s statement.
Currently heading up Freshfields’ finance and capital markets practice in Italy, Lombardo has been with the firm for over a decade. Joining in 2008, he was elected partner in 2019 and from 2021, built up the firm’s sustainability group in Italy, developing and coordinating the group in the areas of global business and human rights, sustainable finance, diversity, climate change and corporate governance.
Lombardo said: “I intend to commit myself, with the support of the partners and all the colleagues, in the work of consolidation and development of our activities with the aim of providing our clients with excellent assistance and up to the changing needs that we identify on a daily basis in the market,” he said.
Markus Paul, regional managing partner for Continental Europe, said Francesco has consistently demonstrated his competence as a “forward-thinking and a strong leader”.
“All of us in Continental Europe and beyond are looking forward to working with Francesco and the other partners and colleagues in Milan and Rome in bringing our business forward,” he said.
Freshfields named a new managing partner for its Spain practice in Madrid in December, and earlier in 2021 appointed Frankfurt-based corporate M&A partner Markus Paul as its new regional managing partner for Continental Europe.
